Guest Workshops

Once and a while we offer classes from various masters in their field of art. These special workshops are generally held over multiple days, and are structured to allow students to practice their newly found techniques. More than often students will leave with their own pieces. Fun and informative! Please check this page for future postings.

On-Going Classes & Workshops

Classes in iron working, drawing, painting, glass blowing, glass bead making and many others are also available at the Hot Shops Art Center by many of its artists. Here is a list of most of them, plus their relative links and phone number. Please contact them so we can arrange a time that fits your schedule:

Life Drawing Session Schedule
for 2015

Early Summer Session on Tuesday evenings
May 5 – June 9, 2015 6:00 – 8:30pm
6-week session – cost $50

Location: Events Space (NW corner, 1st floor),
Hot Shops Arts Center, 1301 Nicholas St., Omaha

Now in it's 9th year, Drawing from Life is an opportunity to draw professional live models in the company of other local artists. Please be aware that this is NOT a class, there is no drawing instruction. Fellow attendees range from beginner to pro at drawing live models. Mediums used include pencil, conte, charcoal, pastel, and color pencils. With prior permission, you may use watercolors, acrylics and oils, if you use a contained set-up like a Plein Air Box and no-odor turpentine (if you need more space than someone who is just drawing then you’ll have to take a back row seat at a large table.)

Model starts with five 2-minute warm-up poses, followed by one 10- minute pose, two 25-minute poses, and ending with one 40-minute pose. Models alternate female to male weekly. We provide easels, tables and chairs. You bring your own drawing supplies (we recommend a hard backing for your drawing pad).

Attendees are invited to submit at least one framed drawing to our Annual Drawing from Life Show in February at a Hot Shops Gallery.

If you are unable to commit to 8 consecutive weeks, we allow DROP-INs for any single session at the cost of $12 ($10 for students and retired folks). If all front row seats are taken by registered artists, we ask that Drop-Ins take 2nd row seats.

To register or request more information, please email Diane Stoffel at, or call her at 402-659-2962. The very modest payment is due at the 1st session, cash or check (make out to Diane Stoffel). Please plan to arrive a bit early on the first session to take care of business without cutting into drawing time.

C'mon down . . . you get to improve your drawing skills, meet fellow artists and have fun! Some beginners have learned enough about drawing by doing and watching others. Others do better by taking an actual class at a local college first. You know your learning style best!

Art: Mark-It is a hands-on art activity for many occasions. The classes are offered at the Hot Shops Art Center, 1301 Nicholas Street, in the heart of the new Market North Development.

The following offerings are perfect for: Parties, Birthday Parties for Children or Adults, Dates, Adult or Youth Groups, Inter-Generational Parties, Anniversaries, Special Occasions, Corporate Fun Days, Singles, or just because you are interested!
