Guest Workshops

Once and a while we offer classes from various masters in their field of art. These special workshops are generally held over multiple days, and are structured to allow students to practice their newly found techniques. More than often students will leave with their own pieces. Fun and informative! Please check this page for future postings.

Creative Sculptural Beadmaking: Sillystuff Mini Class

1-day Class

Sept 9, 2016, 9:30am-6pm

Intermediate level. Sculptural techniques and heat control—you’ll get it all! You’ll learn to visualize and design sculptural beads from the inside out, diagram your designs, and create designs by working from largest to smallest detail. We’ll discuss how to turn wonky beads into fabulous fish, where to go for inspiration and design ideas, and how to find your own creative voice. You’ll practice new techniques while making fish, lizards, assorted critter heads and bodies—fun learning guaranteed! And we’ll stay a bit late to end the day with a Bead Toss.

Goblins, Faces and Cabochons

1-day Class

Sept 10, 2016, 9:30am-6pm

Intermediate level. Here’s your chance to play with Strange and Interesting Faces, both as beads and cabochons! We’ll cover a lot—eyes, noses, mouths both closed and screaming, kissy lips, big floppy ears, hair, horns, and even hats, if you want ‘em. You’ll learn to make human-ish and creature faces with expression and do creepy Joker Smiles. We’ll make simple eye cane, cover classic Italian style faces, goblin and creature heads with expression, and learn several eye techniques. In the afternoon we’ll apply all we’ve learned to cabochons, and learn to work larger than the footprint of the cab mandrel.

The Dragon Class

1-day Class

Sept 11, 2016, 9:30am-6pm

Intermediate level. Make simple murrini eyes, practice body parts on test cylinders, learn easy techniques that give maximum expression, and perhaps make a bat to learn wings. Make some heads—a long-nosed Chinese Snakey Dragon with murrini eyes, and my Morphing Goof Dragon with inset eyes. We have two body options to pick from, sideways flying for necklace, or a squatty body great for pendants. We’ll make one in class, and the other will be homework. We’ll cover inspiration sources, designing from toys (look for dragon figurines!), and find your personal voice. Stay a bit late to end the day with a fun Bead Toss!

SIGN UP NOW for an 8-week Life Drawing Session!
8 consecutive Tuesday evenings cost a total of $70

Welcome NEW management!!!
TG Ndoda will be hosting Tuesday Life Drawing from this session forward.

Now in it's 10th year, Drawing from Life is an opportunity to draw professional live models in the company of other local artists. Please be aware that this is NOT a class, there is no drawing instruction. Fellow attendees range from beginner to pro at drawing live models. Mediums used include pencil, charcoal, pastel, color pencils, watercolor, etc.

Model starts with five 2 min. warm-up poses, followed by one 10 min. pose, two 25 min. poses, and ending with one 40-minute pose. Models alternate female to male weekly. We provide easels, tables and chairs. You bring your own drawing supplies (we recommend a hard backing for your drawing pad).

If you are unable to commit to 8 consecutive Tuesdays, we allow DROP-INs for any single session at the cost of $12. If all front row seats are taken by registered artists, we ask that Drop-Ins take 2nd row seats.

To register or request more information, please contact TG Ndoda via email at tgndoda@yahoo.com or call (402) 714-0300. The modest $70 payment is due at the 1st session, cash or check (make out to TG Ndoda). Please plan to arrive a bit early on the first session to take care of business without cutting into drawing time.

Attendees are invited to submit at least one framed drawing to our Annual Drawing from Life Show each February in one of the Hot Shop’s galleries

C’mon down! You get to improve your drawing skills, meet fellow artists and have fun! Some beginners learn enough about drawing by doing and watching others. Others do better by taking an actual class at a local college first. You know your learning style best!

* Due to 2 Tuesday snowstorms dates had to be pushed back 2 weeks thus shortening a session.

Why has the price for Drawing from Life increased from $65 to $70?
Models for these sessions have not had a raise in pay for 8 years. The $5 increase in cost will go directly to models. I have also cancelled the $2 discount on DROP IN cost for Seniors and Students to increase revenue for models.

Art: Mark-It is a hands-on art activity for many occasions. The classes are offered at the Hot Shops Art Center, 1301 Nicholas Street, in the heart of the new Market North Development.

The following offerings are perfect for: Parties, Birthday Parties for Children or Adults, Dates, Adult or Youth Groups, Inter-Generational Parties, Anniversaries, Special Occasions, Corporate Fun Days, Singles, or just because you are interested!
