SOLD OUT: Intro to Bronze Casting

3-Week Course | Saturdays, May 17, 24 & 31, 11–3 PM
No experience needed – just bring your creativity and curiosity!
This hands-on course introduces students to the full bronze casting process using the traditional lost wax method. Whether you’re brand new or looking to refine your artistic skills, this class walks you through each step—from wax modeling to the final patina.
Throughout the course, you’ll see live demonstrations, get one-on-one guidance, and explore both the technical and artistic sides of bronze sculpture. Students are encouraged to work at their own pace and can choose to be as hands-on or hands-off as they like.

Details
Week 1: Introduction & Wax Modeling
- Learn the fundamentals of lost wax casting
- Go over tools, materials, and safety protocols
- View examples of finished bronze works for inspiration
- Begin creating your own wax model
- Take your project home if you want extra time to refine your design
Week 2: Wax Chasing, Spruing & Shell Building
- Explore the importance of wax chasing and venting
- Learn how to design a successful sprue system
- Hands-on demo of applying the first ceramic shell layers
- Understand the care and patience needed in this phase
Week 3: Pour, Clean-Up & Finishing
- Watch a live bronze pour (metal will be prepped beforehand)
- Learn about temperature control and mold prep
- Break out and clean your casting
- Try out metal chasing, sandblasting, and patina application
- Finish your piece with a lacquer or wax seal
- Wrap up with group reflection and show-and-tell

Please wear 100% cotton clothes – we recommend jeans and a long sleeve shirt. Closed toe shoes required (steel toe boots are recommended, but not required.) Long hair should be tied back.
