Photography: Beyond the Program Modes—A Crash Course on How to Create Impactful Photographs

November 19, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

$125

This three-part class will help you master the basic controls of your camera so you can exercise greater creative control over your photographs.  You will learn how to create images that are not possible in program modes, like silky waterfalls and fast-moving birds in flight.  While the class is aimed at owners of digital single lens reflex cameras (DSLRs) and mirrorless cameras, it is open to all camera owners who are willing to take their cameras out of automatic or program modes.

Week 1 will be an overview of basic camera controls with emphasis on aperture (f/stop), shutter speed, and ISO—the exposure triangle.

In week 2 we will cover some basic compositional techniques that will help you create images that will stand apart from the crowd.  We will also talk about quality of light, color temperature, and how to leverage existing light conditions to create impactful images.

In Week 3 we will cover some basic shooting tips for landscapes and portraits.  Participants will have multiple opportunities to practice the techniques covered in class.

What to bring:  Bring your cameras and your user manual, if you have one.

Class size limit: 12

Dates: November 19, 26, and December 10th from 2-4p (6 hours total)
