New Opportunities and a Curiosity-Driven Hotel

Supporting and advocating for artists by providing opportunity and space – to help them find their voice and keep creating are important Hot Shops goals. When we were approached to collaborate with the new Peregrine Hotel, we jumped at the chance to create another new opportunity for our artists.

The Peregrine Hotel officially opened March 30 in an Omaha Designated Historic Landmark building located at 203 S. 18th Street. The hotel is a member of the Curio Collection by Hilton which prides itself on curiosity and storytelling. It has several stories to tell, including the inspiration for their name. WoodmenLife Tower – next door to the hotel – is home to a falcon breeding program. Thus, the peregrine falcon is the mascot of the hotel that features the falcon, nests and feather-themed art throughout.

The Peregrine Hotel has made it a priority to connect with local artists to help with those art opportunities. Dave Koenig, a local tattoo artist, was the creator of a 6-story, art deco falcon that is the view for the interior rooms. Local muralists, Arbor Street Studios, were responsible for the installation.

The Hot Shops has been tapped by the hotel to provide a rotating art program for the front desk. For the hotel launch, artists Dani Bonine and Tracy Rotundo provided a several acrylic poured canvas pieces in a variety of vibrant colors to contrast the more muted tones throughout the lobby. The artwork is for sale and will change every 6-months. Hot Shops artists will also have their work featured and for sale in the retail area of the hotel.

The Hot Shops is also offering experiential art opportunities, such as hands-on glass blowing workshops, that weekend guests can package with their stay for a unique Omaha cultural experience. “When people travel, they are coming for an Omaha experience, not to stay in a hotel,” said David Scott, sales manager for the Peregrine Hotel. “Peregrine is Latin for traveler/wanderer. We want our guests to join our “peregrine nation” – where we recognize and celebrate you as an individual, and you can be your full self. We want to give you an opportunity to experience something you may not otherwise have had, and that is what creativity and art is all about.”

The Hot Shops values also include celebrating the individual, and our mission is to be a place where ideas, dreams and what ifs are explored, created and shared. We are excited share creative opportunities with our newest partner – Peregrine Hotel.

The Peregrine Hotel will be offering Hot Shops members 10% off overnight stays and 10% off of food in the restaurant. Just show your membership card and enjoy this new addition to the Omaha community!
